5 Signs That Reveal It’s Time for Air Duct Cleaning

When it comes to indoor air quality, HVAC systems play an essential role. Air ducts, in particular, allow air to flow through them, out of the vents, and into your home's rooms. Therefore, whether or not they're clean directly impacts the quality of air that moves through the house. But, how do you know whether or not it's time for air duct cleaning? In this post, Atlantic Duct Cleaning reviews five sure signs.

5 Signs That Reveal It's Time for Air Duct Cleaning

1. Your House Is Always Dusty despite Cleaning

Every homeowner must dust regularly to keep the home clean. If you never dust, you'll start to see visible dust covering furniture, baseboards, and stair railings. However, if you dust consistently and still battle constant dust, you may have dirty air ducts. When air ducts get filled with dust and debris, some of it makes its way through the ducts and back out the vents into the home. If you experience this issue, you may need to schedule an air duct cleaning

2. Airflow throughout the Home Is Inconsistent

Inconsistent or weak airflow through the home's vents is a sure sign that you must clean air ducts. No matter what room you enter in the house, it would be best if you experienced the same level of airflow. If not, a professional technician should look at the system and let you know whether cleaning is in order.

3. Previous Homeowner Left No Records

The housing market is still booming, with people constantly on the move. If you recently purchased a home, especially if the house is older or the previous owner smoked, ask the previous owner for records. Then, check to see what work was completed when. If the records indicate the air ducts haven't been cleaned, or if they don't have any documents, you may want to schedule an air duct cleaning.

4. The Air Filter Constantly Clogs

Furnace filters need to be replaced regularly. Therefore, a clogged air filter doesn't necessarily mean you have dirty air ducts or air vents. Still, if you replace the filter more often than you should and can't figure out why they fill up so quickly, it could be the air ducts.

5. Recent Home Repairs or Renovations

Any home repair or renovation that involves drywalling or sanding typically leaves dust behind. The bigger the project, the more dust. It doesn't hurt to invest in air duct cleaning after a large home improvement project to ensure clean ducts and vents. However, it's not required. On the other hand, a recent renovation combined with years of air duct neglect means you may want to consider it. This is especially true if you notice any of the other signs we've covered.
